Nara De-ai

11/01 - 11/02

The sixth Nara De-ai (go out and meet) will take place on November 1st and 2nd. Not unlike a village fete, this event has bazaars, fun and games for children, dance and music performances, food of the world, films, shops and workshops.

Last year over 7,000 people attended, including foreign residents from the 71 different nationalities that live in Nara. Groups large and small from all over Japan will participate, holding lectures, discussion groups and workshops.

This year's underlying theme will be to get together and get to know NPO and NGO volunteer groups in Nara. Each group champions a different cause. From the environment to global education, from aids to waste reduction. The event is sponsored by the Forum of Global Citizens, Nara. Admission is free, though there is a small charge for some of the workshops.

The event is held in the grounds of the old Todai-ji school. Minutes from Todai-ji, a world heritage site and the world's biggest wooden structure. This temple is also famous for housing the Great Buddha.

Nara NPO Plaza, 100 Suimon Cho, Nara
How to get there:
• From Kintetsu or JR Nara station, take the loopline bus to Todai-ji
• It is a 20 minutes walk from Kintetsu station
