This is Asia's largest short film festival. It was
started in 1999 by executive chairman, Tetsuya Bessho who is also a famous actor.
The Japanese and American movie festival executive selected excellent works from over 2,000 submissions:
four Asian, five non-Asian, three national, and two Osaka special programs. This event has been supported
by George Lucas and Lucasfilm Ltd since it started. In addition to works in the competition, Academy Award
programs, famous director's works, and women director's films will be shown. The Grand Prix is nomination
for an Academy Award in the short film section next year.

18th Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks

The
This event is voluntarily managed by local citizens who really love
Osaka. Corporations, groups, and stores of the city financially
support it by donations. It could be called a "Handmade fireworks event". The
main theme for this year is "Summer Colorfulness - Impressive
Dramatic Night". A new kind of firework, called a wave
star mine, will contribute to the spectacle. Please follow
the directions of the officials because a huge crowd is
expected. Since there is no parking area or parking lot
for bicycles, please do not go to the site by car or bicycle. There will be strict control of traffic.

Disney PIXAR Finding Nemo

Disney on Ice has a 25-year history and is performed in 40 countries. In Japan,
over 16 million people have been attracted to this spectacle since 1986
by classic masterpieces including Snow White and Pinocchio, and new works
such as Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. The latest work of this year is
Finding Nemo. You feel as if audience were under the sea while impressive
costumes, fine performances, music and light entertain you. Dry ice and a
dip in the marine world will help you cool down during the hot, sultry days
of summer. Let's have fun with the magic of Disney on Ice!

Sha-baah/Butoh Torano-ana - Dairakudakan Kochuten Performance

Dairakudakan was founded by Maro Akaji in 1972. More than 50 works were
produced in the tenputenshiki style, which means " it's a great fortune to be born
in this world”. They successfully performed butoh in the US and France in 1982.
After that, butoh swept the world. Their dance is amazingly powerful and can
convey feeling and meaning without words. As the performers' looks are greatly
impressive, they will burn into your memory at once. Once you get into the world
of butoh, you might well hooked on it. A limited number of 20 tickets for both
plays cost ¥4,000, only on sale through Dairakudakan.

Julius Charo Shutu come to Japan from Kenya in East Africa. African
dance and music is remarkable for its energy and fascinating from the way
in which it reflects the environment and depicts the life experiences of its

The 7th International Railroad Miniature Model Convention Osaka

Event introduces those from palmsize railroad models to large enough
ones for adults to ride from all over the world. The organizer is the Japan
association of model railroaders. Their aims are to help those whose
hobby is enjoy railroad miniature models to have community and to let as many people as possible know

Classic Performance Event - World Intangible Heritage, Jyoruri Bunraku

Jyoruri is the word for traditional Japanese puppet theatre. The program
is sonezaki-shinjyu written by Chikamatu Monzaemon in the Edo era, one
of the most famous plays. A living national treasure works the puppets.
