Recently opened on the first floor of the OCAT building in Namba, the Zeku Brain Pharmacy is a unique store in Japan. If you have troubles or worries about your health, the staff are ready with advice.

The store specializes in kanpo (Chinese herbal medicine), tablets (supplements), healthy sweets, healthy food, natural cosmetics, aromatherapy essential oils and herbs.

As the aroma adviser of Zeku told us, "When I stayed in Germany, people loved to eat Japanese food as healthy food, as like wakame, konbu, hijiki (seaplants), genmai (brown, unpolished rice) and miso. They are known as macrobiotic food in Europe and it is very popular now." It is true that Japanese food is simple, low in calories and cholesterol and is very nourishing. As Zeku medical adviser Minamitani-san explained, "We recommend healthy sweets here. These are made of dried fruits, beans, soya powder … These are low-calorie and good for your health. [They] go very well with green tea, herb tea or black coffee. Most customers are women and are interested in weight control. We have cordials, herbs, and kanpo, which help you control your calories."

You can have a simple but effective (and free!) medical check which takes just a few minutes and then receive health advice and suggestions of beneficial herbs. You will also find out the real age of your body!

There is a café in the shop, where you can relax with original blended herb teas starting from ¥380. "We would like to suggest an exact herb tea for your body condition. There are different types of body, and you can match specific herbs to specific types."

Once a month there is a workshop on making cosmetics by hand (¥1,000). You can create your own original products.
