Japan Mint Cherry Blossom Viewing

This is a seasonal tradition that has continued since 1883. There are about 120 kinds of cherry tree along the road inside the Mint such as yaezakura and other rare kinds. About 370 cherry trees are seen for a week. This is a must-see in this season if you are in Osaka. Every year it attracts a large number of visitors (about 800,000) coming to this place famous for its blooms. The 560m of cherry blossom arches is a spectacle. Those who love nature and plants will enjoy walking among the spring trees.

Rosas/Desh (the second part of the night)

Rosas is the contemporary dance company leading a world dance scene centered on Belgium. This is a promising new show in which Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker choreographs and dances with John Coltrane’s ‘India’ and raga, Indian classical music. Those dances are based on long yoga research. Her dance is thrilling and breathtakingly beautiful.

The 37th Japanese Noodle Eating Competition

Shinkoro Square in Izushi cho, Hyogo

This is a competition for eating Japanese noodles—soba— held during Izushi Sakura festival. There will be team competitions, individual competitions, and household harmony competitions. These sometimes frantic soba races are a real spectacle. If you want to participant in this event, you should apply in advance by April 5. Please refer to the following URL and contact the tourist agency for query. As for the individual competitions, apply for them on the day. Some contestants can eat 80 plates of soba. Can you do better?

Opera Lakme — Slovenia National Maribor Opera House

This opera has not been performed for about 80 years in Japan. The voice of diva, Désirée Rancatore taking Europe by storm at the height of her popularity is a must-listen. She was showered with glowing accolades in Vienna and Paris in this role of Lakme. The best singers and staff have gathered here to bring us this performance. Lakme is an exotic and rich compostion. Especially ‘The Bell Song’ is as famous as a song that is hard for a coloratura soprano to sing. The conductor is Francesco Rosa and Tenor singer is Celso Albero. Played in French with Japanese subtitles.

This event started on March 28 and the park is proud of its tulip garden. Twelve thousand colorful tulips are blooming in about 5,000 M2. Park café serve special fare for a tulip festival. There will be a poppy festival from Apr 14 to 30.

Ritsuunkyo Sakura Festival

Tajima Yoshino is famous for two types of cherry trees, Yamazakura & Someiyoshino blooming at a different time, of which there are in total 4,000. The national historic site Takeda castle ruin towers on the top of the mountain.

3rd Osaka Six-a-Side Soccer Inter-bars Tournament

Osaka-jo Koen

Sixteen bars of the Osaka nightlife (includ-ing your favorite bartenders and usual customers) will meet down Osaka-jo koen from 1pm, not for a drinking competition but to compete in the second 6-a-side soccer interbars tournament. There will be a maxi- mum of 16 teams. Each team should have five field players, one goalkeeper and two substitute players. Each game will last for 15minutes for a minimum of three games per team. If you are interested to join, organize a team with your local bar and contact la French connection. The deadline for enrolment is the 7th of April.

Cherry Blossom Party

Set within the hidden walls of the Osaka Castle Plum Garden, Zulu- Samurai and French Connection have teamed up again to present a free allday, all-night party. Come along and enjoy sitar and dijeridoo performers, bongo drummers, musicians and the best DJs on offer under the cherry trees! Drinks and food will be available, as well as flavoured tobacco sheesha pipes (also known as hooka) and a chillout zone! DJs bRoTheRmAn, Yoku (A Thousand Birds), Ian, Yuri (Genix), Jaxx da Fishworks, Milkbro, Jules and more will be spinning their records for you all night long. The 3rd Annual Osaka Bocce Ball/petanque Tournament will also be held from 11am on the Sunday with over ¥50,000 in prizes. Bocce Ball/petanque, music and dancing, good food and drinks, all under the cherry blossoms!
