The Origami Dream by Daas

Sep 1-26

Pile Café, Osaka

In his latest exhibition, American artist Daas has conjured up a dreamy and playful world, inhabited by origami horses, birds, kangaroos and pandas. While looking at these paintings, you get the sense that everything is living in harmony. All the animals and insects seem to share in a communal existence. These paintings are lighthearted, cute, fun and curious. After peeking into this imaginary world, it’s hard not to feel a sense of longing for a time and place like the ones Daas has created for us with the stroke of his brush.

Chaotic Order

Sep 17

Gallery Mssohkan, Hyogo

Bosco Sodi’s solo exhibi- tion will complete the picture of his Japan project 07, before taking off to participate in major international art fairs and biennales alike. One of the most promising artists of contemporary Mexican art, Bosco Sodi (b.1970 Mexico City), is most widely known for his tableau-like painting works that command an optimal equilibrium of fragility and overwhelming presence in a space. With their visual idioms that shed light upon the very essence of humanity, the boundarydistorting surfaces of Sodi’s works tacitly fill the white cube. The exhibition, entitled Chaotic Order, which marks his second solo show in Japan, comprises new series of works that stem from his two-month residency program at Tokyo Wonder Site Aoyama, organized by Tokyo Wonder Site in conjunction with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico. It depicts several aspects of the Japanese culture both on/off street levels filtered by Sodi’s inspirations during his residency in Aoyama.

Belle Epoque

Sep 19 - Oct 1

Kobe Daimaru Museum, Kobe

Paris at the end of the 19th century was the centre of Europe’s “belle époque” — the city was the stage for the new art, fashion, ideas and sophistication of the period. The Paris Universal Exposition in 1900 was considered as the integration of the belle époque culture. The Musee du Petet Palais was built by the city as the main site for the Universal Exposition and it holds a splendid collection that reminds us of the elegance of Paris in and around the year 1900. Paintings, sculptures, glasswork and jewelry — this exhibition reveals the brilliance of the period. Subway Chuo-line, Osaka-ko stn
