Animal empire

Feature : Taking the train from Tokyo to Fukuoka through Nagoya, Osaka and Hiroshima, the
urban development barely lets up. Japan's Pacific coast is almost one huge conurbation
and home to most of the population. It is easy to forget that this is because
most of the country is mountains and forests and all that green is home to a great
variety of birds, beasts and bugs, none of which are very far away. Similarly, the
many rivers and continual closeness to the ocean means that this nation's teeming
aquatic life is always just next door. If you go down in the woods today, you might
be in for a big surprise. KS cozies up with our non-human neighbours.
