One heavenly bus deal

Get your butt on the bus for this special deal to see one of Japan’s most famous views.

As part of a spring campaign to promote international tourism, the Amanohashidate Tourism Association is offering a special discount bus pass from Kyoto to Amanohashidate during March.

One of the region’s highlights is the 3.6 kilometre long sand spit known as the “Bridge to Heaven”, which is one of the top three scenic views in Japan (the other two are Matsushima in Miyagi and Miyajima in Hiroshima). Here, visitors strike a special pose, (bent over with your head between your legs), because when viewed upside down the bridge appears to float towards heaven.

Also of interest is the charming fishing hamlet of Ine, which has rows of traditional funaya wooden boathouses. There are around 230 of these distinctive homes rimming the shores of Ine Bay and creating a unique water landscape. This is a wonderful place to enjoy super-fresh seafood and peaceful village life by the sea.
