A Journey to the Land of Immortals – Treasures of Ancient Greece
Dec 23, 2016 - Apr 2, 2017¥1500
Kobe City Museum
The aesthetic refinement of Ancient Greek art has mesmerized audiences from cultures around the world since the era of its creation. Centering on themes of polytheism and the intricate relationship between gods and mortals, the style depicted in Ancient Greek works has stood out against other historical art forms for its glorified yet lifelike portrayals of the human body. The Kobe City Museum invites guests on a journey through the evolution of this classical genre. On display at this large-scale exhibition are over 300 pieces from various areas around Ancient Greece including sculptures, fresco paintings, and metal objects dating from the Aegean era through to the Hellenistic period. Witness these unprecedented works conceived at the original source of Western culture, 90 percent of which are appearing in Japan for the first time.
