Oodles of joy

Kyoto — Did you know that there are over 45 recognised va-rieties of udon in Japan, and that you can sample them all under one roof? If you’re mad about these fat, white strands of joy, then look no further than the Udon Museum in Kyoto. This newly-opened museum, perfectly situated in the renowned Gion district, is a temple for all things udon. There are displays on udon history, major ingredients, that to-die-for soup stock, plus noodle samples showing the huge variety of shape, thickness, color, and length. And that’s just for starters. You can try 45 mini-bowls of specialty udon from around Japan, and get your hands on over 100 different types of dried udon at the souvenir shop. As any udon lover will tell you – it’s best to get in while it’s hot
