City remembers earthquake

Kobe — January 17 marks the anniversary of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, which took thousands of lives in 1995. An event called Kibo no Akari is taking place at Higashi Yuenchi Park in Sannomiya, where people will share experiences of the earthquake, focussing on the importance of kindness, charity and helping each other. If you want to learn more about the earthquake, head to the Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution, which is an interactive museum at HAT Kobe. This museum provides a wealth of English information and is also currently displaying photographs relating to the Tohoku disaster.
