Shitennoji Flea Market

Osaka might not be known for its traditional culture and temples, yet the city is home to the oldest Buddhist temple in the entire nation – Shitennoji. Just a short walk from teeming Tennoji Station and the crowded Q’s Mall is a peaceful park and ancient holy site that comes alive once a month for the Shitennoji Flea Market. A medley of vendors selling stuff ranging from used shoes to vintage hotel log books set up shop on the temple grounds. You can find many strange and wonderful things here, like ceramics, paintings, and clothes, many of them rare and unique. Shintennoji is the perfect place to find a wacky collectible to add to your store of historic Japanese goods, cheap thrift clothing, or to just spend an afternoon experiencing a traditional market atmosphere.
